The JP Memorial 2023

For the second consecutive year, The JP Memorial descended upon Woodward Park City on a beautiful and sunny day.

After an endless winter in Utah, it was fitting to have what many considered the first true spring ski day of the year fall on JP’s day of celebration and remembrance. Woodward built a ton of dialed features for the event, including a banked slalom course, and immaculately sculpted the halfpipe to host the main event in the afternoon.

The mountain was splashed with countless multicolored canaries,

a symbol taken from a sketch in JP’s notebook that’s grown to become an iconic depiction of all he represents. 

Inclusivity has been a key focus of recent JP Memorials, and this year was no different. Local organizations including SOS Outreach, the Utah Avalanche Center, Wasatch Adaptive Sports, and One Love Ski & Snowboard participated, making for a great day of camaraderie mixed with really fun skiing and riding. A big shout out goes to Traeger Grills for coming out and serving food for all of the participants. Everyone was spoiled with grade A eats from their grill masters. 

The pinnacle of the day, as it was last year, was the halfpipe jam session.

Pros and stoked skiers of all abilities hit the halfpipe while Micah Abrams announced and some classic soundtracks from JP’s segments filled the air. Some insane airs, Auclair grabs, and wicked crashes were all on the menu during the jam session. The capper was a beautiful tribute to JP, a halfpipe snake run where over 60 contestants dropped into the pipe in succession to celebrate our dear friend.  

 At the end of the day, everyone met at Woodward Village for an awards ceremony and some tunes with local band Superbubble. Below is a list of the winners of the day. We love you JP, and it was a pleasure to celebrate such a special individual with friends once again.
