The Origins of Armada

The Origins of Armada

In the early 2000’s a new generation of skiers were developing a radical new vision for the sport. Taking inspiration from skateboarding, surfing, and snowboarding, they brought a creative, imaginative spirit that turned a community still rooted in alpine racing upside down. They founded Armada with a simple goal that remains to this day: build the products and create the culture that embody what skiing will become.
ARMADA MILESTONES

2002: Armada is established as the first athlete-founded ski brand. The original AR5—JP Auclair, Tanner Hall, JF Cusson, Julien Regnier and Boyd Easley—teamed up with photographer Chris O’Connell, videographer Eric Iberg, and Hans Smith, to launch the company with two models of skis, the ARV and the AR5.

2006: Led by Tanner Hall, Armada athletes win multiple X-Games medals in Aspen, CO, stamping the brand’s place atop the world freeskiing.

2008: AR Outerwear launches, bringing the same creative mindset and progressive design to softgoods production as the brand has in ski development.

2009: Armada is granted the patent for the first 5-dimensional ski design for the ARG. This design spawns the launch of the iconic JJ and revolutionizes the ways skis are designed and built.

2015: Armada moves HQ to Park City, UT. The brand started in Costa Mesa where inspiration from outside the ski industry helped fuel the outsider’s mindset that rewrote the skiing landscape. The move to the mountains brings the brand into the epicenter of North American skiing, closer to the athletes and mountains that continue to drive the evolution of the sport.

2022: Armada celebrates its 20-Year Anniversary by relaunching the ARV Series. Over two decades the brand that started as a wild idea—a creative outlet for some likeminded skiers—reaches a milestone that’s a testament to the hard work, innovation, and endless vision of the people who reimagined what skiing could be.
